Double Rider Help

AKK Ranch Double Rider Help:

The Double Rider is a ground vehicle developed to allow 2 people to ride ride a horse in SecondLife.  The AKK Ranch Double Rider and The AKK Ranch Horses have been designed to work together.  There are 5 simple steps to using the AKK Ranch Double Rider:

  1. Wear your horse
  2. Drag the double rider from inventory (search for double rider) to the ground.  Just as if you were placing pose balls.
  3. Right mouse click (on the Mac this is apple-mouse click) the black ball and select "ride".
  4. Have the person that will also ride right mouse click the white ball and select ride
  5. Use the arrow keys or movement controls to move.

All adjustments for the double rider are done via a menu system that can be started by either touching the double rider or typing "/10menu" in the chat window.  The main menu (for the Kaiila) looks like the following:

All the variants of the double rider have the same menu structure, just the names are changed to protect the innocent.  The following functions are available on this menu:

  • horse up or kaiila up: Causes the horse to be raised off the ground and is used for bringing the legs of the horse out of the ground, repeat as necessary.
  • horse up or kaiila up:  Causes the horse to be lowered to the ground and is used to set the horses feet firmly on the ground, repeat as necessary.
  • h next pose or k next pose:  Changes the poses of the person sitting on the black ball.   they rotate between Western, Wide Western and Side Saddle poses.
  • help: Gives a help card.
  • reset: Resets the double rider to its default settings and rider positions
  • rider menu: brings up a menu to adjust the rider (passenger, white ball) positions and poses, see below.  The position changes cannot be made while the passenger is sitting on the white ball.
  • ignore: hides the menu.  This menu will pop up after every button selection, except rider menu and ignore, to allow ease in adjusting the double rider.

The rider menu is used to change the position and poses of the person on sitting on the white ball.  Reminder: all position changes will not take affect until the person resits on the white ball.  The following is the menu and actions each selection causes:

This menu is reached by selecting rider menu on the main menu.  The following are the actions taken:

  • r next pose: changes the pose of the person sitting on the white ball.  The poses are in this order, Western, Wide Western, Side Saddle, and for the Kaiila only Captured.
  • set rider: brings up another menu that allows you to allow a specific AV to ride on the white ball.  Choosing rdr none allows no one to ride with you and hides the white ball.  Choosing rdr all allows anyone to ride with you.
  • unsit rider:  used to kick an unwanted AV off the white ball.
  • in front:  Moves the white ball to a preset position in front of the person on the black ball.  this can be further adjusted using the other position selections
  • rider up: Moves the white ball up an incremental height to fine tune the position of the white ball.
  • behind: Moves the white ball to a preset position behind the black ball
  • rider foward: Moves the white ball foward an incremental distance to fine tune the position of the white ball.
  • reset: Moves the white ball to the default position and pose.
  • rider back: Moves the white ball back an incremental distance to fine tune the position of the white ball.
  • main menu: stops this menu from displaying and displays the main menu
  • rider down: Moves the white ball up an incremental height to fine tune the position of the white ball.
  • ignore: stops this menu from being displayed.

Trouble shooting:

Q: Why does the double rider keep disappearing from my hand?

A: You are atempting to wear the double rider this is not how it works.  Go to the top of this web pages and re-read the 5 steps to use the double rider.

Q: Okay, i am sitting on the double rider, why doesn't it move?

A: There are several possibilities:

  1. You are on a prim instead of the ground or an invisible part of the double rider is intersecting another object.  Move the double rider up off the ground and away from other objects and then stop editing it (SL has a bug where it will not allow you to drive a vehicle that is intersecting another object).
  2. Someone has it selected for editing or highlighted with the pie menu (SL has stopped it form moving).
  3. You rezzed the double rider on land that doesn't allow scripts.
  4. You are sitting on the white ball not the black ball.

Q: When i sit on the black ball the double rider rotates foward or backwards instead of moving.

A: You have rezzed the double rider on an object (floor, road, land made flat by using objects).  Raise the double rider straight up about a metter and then stop editing it.

Q: The double rider wil not move and it is moving all crazily on its own.

A: You or your passenger are wearing an anti griefing product that keeps moving your AV back to that it thinks you want to stay, remove or turn it off.
